New Google Keyword Tool

November 20th, 2008

Google just released another tool to help you find keywords for your pay per click campaign and/or your overall search marketing campaign. First you’ll need to input your website and some of your target keywords and click submit to see the results. See below for a screen shot of the search results that I received when testing this out. I entered in emarketed.com and the following keywords: seo, ppc, web marketing, web design, website video marketing, cms, seo cms, organic cms, search engine optimization

And it gave me 810 suggestions showing me monthly searches, competition level, and search trends. You can click the magnifying glass icon to see the search trends for a specific keyword. A new window will open with Google Insights for Search which provides some very interesting data. You can see how many searches are done wordwide and have it broken down by country, state, and city level. The below screen shot shows what I found when I drilled down on “web design” and then selected United States and California. I was able to see that San Francisco had the most searches for this keyword with Los Angeles coming in 4th. It also displayed “google web design” as a rising search term so this would be a good word for us to optmize. Please disregard this last statement if you’re an SEO and/or web design company. Video Marketing Works

November 19th, 2008

Online video is one of the best ways to capture an audience and convey a message. Increasingly popular is website video marketing. YouTube makes up 10% of all internet traffic, this makes YouTube an important resource for promoting yourself or message because there are millions of people actively searching for something. There are many sites you can post on for video marketing but because of YouTube already has such a large established network it is a community I suggest you join. If you are posting a video on YouTube one of the first things you should do is customize your social media account. Not only will you be able to change how your account looks, by altering colors and fonts, but you can also add links back to your business websites. Once you have done that you should begin to look for popular channels where the subscribers are active on YouTube. You should then build relationships with these active users, consider yourself the new member of a club, you need to be friendly and interesting. That way you can begin to build your list of friends and grow your network. These are just some basic steps that anyone considering YouTube marketing should look into. These days it is not enough to simply put your video out there and sit back. You have to be active and the more dedication you put into expanding your network, the greater the returns.

Google SEO Starter Guide

November 15th, 2008

Google just released a great SEO starter guilde that I have skimmed through and plan to tackle in the next week. It covers the basics and is coming from the mouth of Google so the information has to be in line with their standards. I think this will be helpful to anyone new to SEO or if you’re trying to do search engine optimization (SEO) yourself. The information here will be helpful across all of the major search engines. I’ll post a blog after I’ve reviewed and give an unbiased review. It’s a 22-page PDF that covers some of the following:

  • Page Titles
  • Meta Tag Descriptions
  • Site Navigation
  • Creating Quality Copy
  • Anchor Text (Links)
  • Heading Tags
  • Image Optimization
  • Robot.txt files

Please post a comment if you get a chance to review this.

YouTube Video Marketing

November 6th, 2008

I came across a video on YouTube the other night after the Obama victory speech that was promoting a DVD that a therapist in Florida produced. I was very impressed with this tactic of getting some potential viewers. The therapist that created the video included Obama in the title for the video.  I’m positive this YouTube video promoting a DVD got some decent traffic after the victory speech.  Video marketing on the web has become mainstream now so make sure and add this to your arsenal when it comes to search marketing. We will be posting more on video marketing in the upcoming months.

Blogging Tips & Helpful Blogs to Follow

November 3rd, 2008

I’m currently putting together a presentation for an event we’re hosting in Los Angeles on November 12th in a few weeks that will discuss blogging, local search engines, social bookmarking, and how to monitor your business and was inspired to post this blog about blogging. If you’re new to blogging these links will be very helpful. I’d sign up to follow these blogs so you can see some successful bloggers in action.

You might also want to follow a few blogs that relate to your business so you can see what others in your space are doing.

Here’s a list of what to look out for when you’re observing these bloggers.

  • Use of catchy headlines
  • Links to other sites and blogs from within content
  • Free downloads and how they capture your email
  • How often they post
  • Comments – post a link back to your blog if you can in the comments field (Start commenting on other blogs!)
  • Ad-ons (what else do they have on their blogs that add value to the user experience – twitter feed, list of users, advertisers, links to other social media sites such as Digg, Reddit, and StumbleUpon)

And lastly I’d start putting together a list of ideas for your own blog. Thanks for reading! Please feel free to post some blogs you’ve found helpful.
